The Credit Report Dispute Process

What happens after you dispute an item that you feel is inaccurate?

  • Experian will contact the source of the information and ask them to check their records to verify it.
  • Generally within 30 days, the source must respond to the investigation.
    • The source may verify the item as accurate.
    • The source may ask Experian to update or correct the item.
  • If requested, we will send you an email notice when the results of your credit dispute investigation have been received.
Online delivery is the fastest way to get the results.

You can check the status of your dispute investigation anytime to see what progress has been made.
